On noisy or poor voice traffic some were unintelligible on the SDS100, the IC-R30 still had impressive clear audio. Charge at a constant 700 mA until voltage reaches 4.2V (at which point it will be about 60% charged). 2. Continue charging at a constant 4.2V until the charge voltage drops to 100 mA (at which point the battery is charged). The headphone jack on the sds100 has the lowest output of any scanner I have ever had. I have had lots of scanners in my time. The old scanners worked fine with a amplified speaker plugged in the headphone jack. The jack the on the sds100 is dummied down so low a amplified speaker don't help much.So I recently purchased an SDS100 with the DMR upgrade. The receive quality doesnt even compare to any of the HTs I have. Walking down the street, sitting inside or even both hooked up to similar outdoor antennas, and before anyone asks yes ive tried swapping the antennas (outdoor) on the SDS and HT. There is output indicating the SDS-100 Sub-processor. If you type a lower-case ASCII charactor from a limited set (dhlmoqrwz), several lines of formatted ASCII numbers are sent from the scanner. This looks like engineering debugging output rather than a customer feature. The sub-processor appears to be a NXP LPC4370.Look toward the bottom of the page to find a link to download the driver. (The page references the 325P2, but the same driver is used for the 325, the 996P2, the 436HP, 536HP, as well as both the SDS100 & SDS200. See the instructions in post 4 above if you need more details on how to install the driver file.As others have pointed out, the speaker is of course smaller in the portable. But in either case, connecting an external speaker nullifies that difference. Whether the SDS100 equals the SDS200 in performance will only be borne out by time. It has firmware 1.10.00 and sub version 1.02.01. The Sentinel update to 2.03 went fine and now has the new tuning steps for custom searches, but I don't have any need for them. If it makes any difference, I updated Sentenel first.That's the weird thing, I unplugged the SDS100 and used the new cable instead of the one that came with the SDS100. They do provide power TO the SDS100 but require 12VDC power to the GPS.
